There’s something special about a Rib Cook Off. Sure, it's about incredible food, fierce competition, and the art of BBQ—but more than anything, it’s about people.
🔥 More Than a Competition—It’s a Community
At the recent Que’n at the Lake event in Ketchum, Oklahoma, the essence of what makes Rib Cook Offs so powerful was on full display. One-third of the competing pitmasters were locals, and the town rallied around one of their own: Jeff Fletcher, an RCOA member and cook who lost everything in the recent Stillwater fires. This event wasn’t just a BBQ contest—it was a way to support Jeff, lift his spirits, and show what real community looks like.
Half the town showed up—not just to eat, but to stand behind someone in need. That’s the kind of support that no trophy can match.
A Weekend Full of Heart and Heat
The competition was as flavorful as ever, with categories like Chicken Wings, Rib A, Rib B, and the always-exciting KidsQ. From seasoned pros to young up-and-comers, every cook brought passion and pride to the grill.
Highlights:
Jeff Fletcher, the man of the hour, didn’t just show up—he took 1st place in Chicken Wings.
Dan Fike and Travis Farthing, both RCOA members, earned automatic invites to the 2026 Memphis in May and the RCOA World Championship.
Our future BBQ stars, Gwinn Giles and Liam Lunsford, lit up the KidsQ competition—proof that the BBQ torch is burning bright in the next generation.
The Power of Coming Together
What makes these events truly unforgettable isn’t just the food or the flames—it’s the connections. Families come out. Friends cheer each other on. Volunteers, judges, and sponsors all play their part in making it happen. And at the heart of it all is a shared love for BBQ and community.
From the promoters Scott and Sharon Brown, to dedicated Reps Ralph and Karen Williams, to the amazing sponsors like Gateway Drum Smokers, Blues Hog, Royal Oak, and P&L Steaks Grilling Supply—everyone plays a role in keeping the fire burning.
The Road to Worlds Continues
With Que’n at the Lake behind us, the Road to Worlds is heating up. Next stops: Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Wagoner, Oklahoma.
But wherever the smoke rolls next, one thing is certain: Rib Cook Off will continue to bring people together, one plate at a time.
